Stamford v Halesowen Town

7.45pm  3 February 2015

Northern Premier League, Premier Division
Stamford 1 Halesowen Town 2 (att 244)

Success at the second attempt to tick off Stamford's new Zeeco Stadium, following the postponement of the club's home game on the Sunday just after Christmas.

No problems this time though, despite my fears that plunging temperatures might risk a late call off for frost, the surface was good and remained easily playable throughout.

I don't often see football at this level these days, and while the standard was higher than what I usually watch it was rather lacking in genuine excitement.

Halesowen took a first half lead, Stamford equalised in second half and it looked to be heading for a draw before the visitors snatched a late winner. Not a great game, but not a bad one either.

Before Christmas I visited Evesham United's newish ground, and Stamford's new home bears an uncanny resemblance. The clubhouse is in the corner, there's a seated stand on one side, a covered terrace behind one goal, and the rest is open hard standing. It's not exciting, but it's perfectly adequate and does the job.
