Shevington v Newburgh Harrock United

6.15pm  20 August 2012

Wigan & District Amateur League, Premier Division
Shevington 0 Newburgh Harrock United 3 (att 20)

Back to groundhopping after a football-free weekend, and an entertaining 90 minutes in the warm evening sunshine at Shevington Recreation Ground, near Wigan.

Both sides played some good football, but visitors Newburgh thoroughly deserved their win. It could easily have been more convincing, they missed some good chances and twice hit the woodwork.

The goals they did get were a smart finish after 19 minutes, a rather scrappy second after 59, and a good long range finish after 72 minutes, or thereabouts.

Unsurprisingly, for a Wigan League venue, the facilities at Shevington are basic. It's just an open pitch on the local recreation ground, but with just one pitch it feels enclosed, an on a sunny evening it was a pleasant place to watch a decent game.
