Leyland United v Hurst Green

6.45pm  7 August 2012

West Lancashire League, Division Two
Leyland United 3 Hurst Green 2 (att 75)

This win gave Leyland United maximum points from their first two West Lancashire League games, after stepping up from the Preston and District League during the summer.

Fellow newcomer Hurst Green, previously in the East Lancashire League, pushed them close though, and the two sides provided an entertaining and good quality game. The football on show suggested both sides will be at the top end of the division come next spring.

I think Leyland United are the result of a recent amalgamation of Leyland-based clubs, and they've turned the former BTR works ground, in Centurion Way, into a decent venue.

There's a small car park inside the entrance, from where the main pitch runs lengthways and is enclosed by a post and rail fence. Dugouts, changing rooms and a good tea bar help give it the feel of a proper football ground, and on tonight's evidence the club have a good level of support for this level.
