Forth and Endrick League
Deanston 2 Blanefield Thistle 2 (att 60)
The Forth and Endrick League is one of Scotland's summer leagues. Matches used to be on Saturday evenings, making it a handy stopping point on journeys home from late season games north of the border.
Over the years I managed to complete the league, until Deanston's former Coo Park ground made way for a housing development. Their replacement pitch proved problematic, and couldn't be used for several years.
Thankfully those issues are now resolved and the club is back playing in the village, at Davie McAlpine Park. Forth and Endrick matches are now on Friday nights, apparently to make it easier for clubs to field teams, so the extended bank holiday weekend was an ideal opportunity to recomplete the league.
This year the league has a new website. It's packed with useful information but, weirdly, there's no league table. Blanefield's social media told me this was a game between the two remaining unbeaten sides, and it was a good contest.
Blanefield took a 19th minute lead against the run of play, but the home side were level within two minutes. Deanston then went ahead just before half time. It was 2-2-2 just two minutes into the second period and, surprisingly, that was how it stayed.
Deanston's home is just beyond the houses built on the site of their former pitch. There's a small car park, a pavilion housing the changing rooms, and a pitch that's surrounded by some grass banking.
