Scottish Amateur Cup, First Round
Viewfield Rovers 1 Stewarton United 8 (att 15)
Viewfield Rovers have a long history. The were founded in 1921 but seem to be limping towards their centenary, and their predictable early exit from the Scottish Amateur Cup was the latest in a list of heavy defeats this season.
The scoreline was harsh though, as despite going a goal down they were in the tie for the first half-an-hour. But four quick goals before half time put Stewarton out of sight, and they got a sixth in the opening minute of the second period.
The home side, who play in the second level of the Caledonian League, pulled one back but it was brief respite before Ayrshire Amateur League Stewarton added their final two goals. The visitors should have score more.
Hopefully Viewfield Rovers will get through their difficult start to the season. Their ground, Viewfield Park in Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, wouldn't look out of place in Scottish junior football.
The pitch is enclosed by a rusting rail, with a pair of dugouts and small stand for spectators. The changing rooms and a small bar are in a pavilion building behind the goal nearest the entrance. It's a 'proper' football ground, although the grass could've done with a cut.
