Rudheath Social v Knutsford

6.45pm  14 August 2013

Cheshire League, Division One
Rudheath Social 2 Knutsford 0 (att 117)

An entertaining and highly competitive match with a surprise result, as reigning Cheshire League champions Knutsford lost to a goal in each half against newly-promoted Rudheath in front of a large crowd.

The three figure attendance must have been helped by Rudheath playing back in Rudheath itself this season, after a spell exiled elsewhere in Northwich while new changing rooms were being built. I can only assume the changing rooms are now finished, as they couldn't be seen from the pitch and the players emerged from the direction of the adjacent Co-op.

The ground itself, Griffiths Park, is little more than a public park but more than adequate for this level of football. Both touchlines are railed off, while the ends are roped off and dugouts face each other across the halfway line.

For a team that have won the title for the last two seasons, Knutsford were very disappointing. Rudheath, on the other hand, were surprisingly good, especially after their opening league match at the weekend had finished in a 6-1 defeat.
