Huddersfield Town U18 v Coventry City U18

11.30am  17 August 2013

Under 18 Professional Development League 2, North
Huddersfield Town U18 3 Coventry City U18 1 (att 63)

I didn't want to travel too far today, so the chance to visit Huddersfield's newish training and academy ground was ideal.

The Canalside complex, on Leeds Road is still a work in progress although it looks to be nearing completion. Before being acquired by Huddersfield it was called the Syngenta Sports Ground, and I saw Bay Athletic play a West Riding County Amateur League game here a few years ago.

The pitch used by Bay on that visit is now a 3G pitch, while the academy pitches are a hike from the main complex on the other side of the adjacent canal.

The two sides were playing each other at both under 16 and under 18 levels this morning. The games were side by side, with a roped off area for spectators between the two.

Given all of Coventry's off field problems I expected Huddersfield to win this with ease. Ultimately they did but it was a decent game and Coventry were always in it, at least until the home side's third goal.

Huddersfield had the better of the first half, but it took two goals shortly before half time to put them ahead. Coventry played well early in the second half, and made things interesting when they pulled a goal back, but Huddersfield's third snuffed out any chance of a comeback.
