Bishop's Waltham Town v Liss Athletic

3pm  10 August 2013

Hampshire Premier League, Senior Division
Bishop's Waltham Town 3 Liss Athletic 1 (att 41)

It's often frustrating to miss out on a football ground if a club moves, but occasionally you get a second chance.

Bishop's Waltham Town played at the Hoe Road Recreation Ground years ago, but I failed to visit before they moved out to a new ground elsewhere in the town. However, this season they've returned to their former home, apparently for good and with hopes to improve the facilities, which at present are rather basic.

There are three pitches. The main one, with a steep side-to-side slope, is newly-railed off on one side, with a gap in the central section of the railings awaiting the imminent installation of dugouts. The opposite side is roped off, while one end borders the car park and the far end is open.

The game started brightly with chances at both ends, and the home side scored the first half's only goal. In the second half Bishop's Waltham took control, aided by some very sloppy Liss defending. The score was 3-0 before Liss pulled a very late goal back.
