Kent League
Holmesdale 1 VCD Athletic 0 (att 47)
This game meant I finally completed the Kent League for the first time, just 22 years after starting with an FA Cup match at Crockenhill.
It wasn't a great game, and I was disappointed with VCD given their lofty league position. The only goal came midway through the second half, and looking back I can't recall many other clear opportunities for either team.
Holmesdale's Oakley Road ground, in Bromley Common, is a bit ramshackle, but in a good way. The seated stand looks homemade, and not entirely stable, but it's a far more interesting structure than the many identikit stands that grace too many grounds these days.
Sadly, for lovers of scaffolding at least, plans on display in the clubhouse suggest the stand, as well as rudimentary cover behind one goal, are to be replaced by Arena stands. The new stands will be certainly be better quality, just not as interesting.
