Louth Town v Grimsby Borough reserves

2pm  4 January 2020

Lincolnshire League
Louth Town 2 Grimsby Borough reserves 0 (att 20)

The circumstances surrounding Louth Town losing their former Park Avenue ground are a bit murky to say the least.

They have a ground of their own again now, but it's a few miles outside the town, in the village of Saltfleetby, and while facilities are good it'd be a challenge to make them suitable for promotion back to the level they played at previously.

For now though it's a perfectly acceptable venue for 'step seven' football in the Lincolnshire League. The club appears to be established as part of the local community. Whether the community is Louth or Saltfleetby, or both, I'm not sure.

Two second half goals gave them a routine win against Grimsby Borough's second team. The hosts withstood a sending off 25 minutes from the end, but even with 10 men their lead wasn't seriosuly threatened.

The Marshlands ground is on the main road that runs through Saltfleetby, about seven miles outside Louth. Entrance is via a modern complex of the buildings that includes the clubhouse and changing rooms.

From the entrance the main pitch runs lengthways, beyond a small patio adorned with a few picnic tables. Spectator areas are roped off, allowing fans to stand behind the goal or along one side, where there's also a small stand. Dugouts are on the opposite side, which is out of bounds.
