Horsham v Lewes

3pm  1 January 2020

Isthmian League, Premier Division
Horsham 3 Lewes 0 (att 913)

An ever-shrinking fixture list means chances to visit new grounds on New Year's Day are getting rarer. A visit to Horsham's new home was my only option for today, but at least the artificial surface meant I could embark on the long journey confident of seeing a game.

Horsham's return to a ground of their own in the town, a dozen years after leaving their Queen Street ground, has been one of this season's good news stories. They've settled in well, attracting large crowds and very much in the promotion race.

A Sussex derby against Lewes was always likely to attract a decent attendance, and so I made sure I arrived early enough to park, get into the ground and grab a programme without any problems.

The Camping World Community Stadium (as it'll be known for the length of the sponsorship deal) is good for a new build, and was able to cope with a crowd just a few short of a thousand.

The main stand has plenty of seats, and there's three smaller areas of cover, one with seats, dotted around the far side and behind the far goal. Behind the goal nearest the entrance is a pleasant clubhouse.

Not so long ago Lewes were several levels higher than Horsham. They're in the same league now of course, but they were no match for the hosts who ran out comfortable winners. Two first half goals, the second a sublime overhead kick that might well be the best goal I'll see in 2020, set Horsham on the path to three points. A third goal after the break settled matters.
