Lincoln City U18 v Grimsby Town U18

11am  4 January 2020

EFL Youth Alliance, North East
Lincoln City U18 2 Grimsby Town U18 2 (att 54)

EFL Youth Alliance games are usually played on grass, with artificial pitches occasionally used as a back up in bad weather. But this season Lincoln have moved their youth fixtures to a venue that only has a plastic pitch.

The problem for spectators is that they're not allowed inside the 'cage' that encloses the pitch at Riseholme College, so watching a game involves peering through a fence that makes it tricky to get a decent view.

Not only that, but the one side of the pitch that spectators can watch from, adjoining the car park, faces the morning sun. So all in all this wasn't the the most enjoyable 90 minutes I've spent at a football pitch.

Luckily the match wasn't bad. Lincoln had the better of the first half, and a 2-0 lead by half time, but Grimsby upped their game after the break and did well to battle back for a draw.

A decent game, but it's hard to feel connected to the action when you're watching it from the edge of a car park and through a fence.
