Thirsk Falcons v Northallerton Town reserves

7.30pm 16 August 2023

North Riding League, Premier Division
Thirsk Falcons 5 Northallerton Town reserves 0 (att 76)

My second North Riding League game inside a week. This time it was Thirsk Falcons offering a later kick off time, under floodlights, that allowed for a relatively stress-free rush hour journey.

Thirsk's ground, an artificial pitch at Sowerby Sports Village, is fairly new. It's a good facility, with grass playing fields as well as the main ground, and changing rooms adjacent.

The 3G is inside a cage, as you'd expect, but it's a good set up for spectators. Viewing is available, inside the fence, for the entire length of one side and one end. Dugouts are on the far side, as are all the spare small-sided goals that too often get in the way when trying to watch a game.

Both teams had lost their opening league fixture. It was Thirsk who got off the mark after this one, following a dominant performance. They scored three in the first half-an-hour, a fourth before half time and number five early in the second half.

After that the game was mostly Thirsk attack against Northallerton defence but, surprisingly, the home side couldn't add to their tally.
