Sutton United v Ingles

7.45pm 15 August 2023

Midland Football League, Division One
Sutton United 1 Ingles 1 (att 110)

It's nine years since I last saw the West Midlands version of Sutton United play at home. In my blog at the time I remarked that the club had a thriving feel about it. Now they've relocated that's even more the case.

Their new base, the Coleshill Road Stadium, feels like a great community asset. Not only did they attract a three figure crowd, on a night when local rivals Sutton Coldfield Town were also at home, but there were plenty of people making good use of the facilities.

As well as the main ground there's a small-sided artificial pitch and a good clubhouse. The 'stadium' pitch, also artificial, has a small seated and stand and, unusually for such venues, allows spectator access on all four sides.

On the pitch it was an entertaining game between sides who were evenly-matched. Sutton started the stronger and led 1-0 by half time. They should have added to their lead, and will have regretted missed chances when Ingles equalised after the break.

Both sides could have won the game as the final whistle approached, but there were no more goals.
