Milton-under-Wychwood v Spartan Rangers

11am  14 September 2019

Witney and District League, Premier Division
Milton-under-Wychwood 1 Spartan Rangers 2 (att 166)

The Witney and District League doesn't normally feature on my groundhopping radar - my single 'tick' before this game was 29 years ago - but this year it's staging a hop for the first time.

It began on Friday night at a ground I'd visited when they played in a higher league, so I joined the throng on Saturday morning in the pleasant village of Milton-under-Wychwood, not far from Chipping Norton.

The club had pulled out all the stops to turn their village green ground into a venue capable of accommodating a much larger crowd than usual, and it wasn't a bad game considering how low down the football pyramid the league is.

Milton were playing their opening league game after winning promotion to the top division last season. They started well, going a goal up early on, but Witney-based Spartan Rangers came back to score twice in the second half.
