New Romney v Red Velvet

2.45pm 8 October 2022

Kent County League, Premier Division
New Romney 1 Red Velvet 4 (att 90)

A surprisingly comfortable win for Red Velvet, although they were clinical when chances came their way while New Romney were wasteful in front of goal, including having two penalties saved.

The first spot kick was in the first half while the game was goalless, and the outcome might have been different had it been scored. Instead it was the visitors who went ahead.

By half time they'd added two more goals. New Romney started the second half positively, while Red Velvet were in danger of assuming the points were already won.

A second penalty for home side was saved, but moments later they got a third spot kick. This time they scored, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed by a fourth Red Velvet goal.

New Romney's ground is basic but pleasant and perfectly adequate for this level of football. The pitch is roped off, with dugouts on the far side. Opposite the dugouts is the venue's main feature, a pitchside pavilion housing changing rooms, a bar and providing cover for spectators.
