Admiral Park v Garswood United

2pm 1 October 2022

Liverpool FA, Challenge Cup, First Round
Admiral Park 2 Garswood United 4 (att 26)

The last time I saw the home side they were known as The Empress, but a change of home ground has seen a change of name.

They're now called Admiral Park, having adopted the name of their new home. It's an intriguing venue for this level, particularly in a league where most games are played on 3G pitches.

Not only is the surface grass, but the pitch is fully enclosed, there's a 50 seat stand and a clubhouse with an upstairs balcony overlooking the action.

This cup tie was between teams from different leagues at the same level. The top divisions of the Liverpool County Premier League and the Cheshire League are both at the 11th tier of English football.

The Cheshire League side came out on top. They deserved their win, but there was little between the sides in a competitive and enjoyable tie.

Garswood made the better start but it was Admiral Park who scored first. They couldn't hold the lead for long, and soon after the visitors levelled a second away goal turned the game around.

Admiral Park hit back almost immediately, but the first half goals weren't over as Garswood netted again to go into half time with a narrow lead.

The second half couldn't match the first for goals, and it took until stoppage time before Garswood confirmed their progress to the next round with a fourth goal.
