Catforth and District Summer League, Division One
Plungington 1 Sir Tom Finney 2 (att 14)
After a seven day break I began my 2021/22 season the same way I finished my 2020/21 season, with a game in Catforth Summer League.
Plungington have been among the more regular participants in the league, playing at various home venues. In May 2014 I saw them on an artificial pitch at Fulwood Academy, this year they're back at the school, but on a grass pitch.
Visitors Sir Tom Finney operate Saturday and Sunday sides during the regular season. This win moved them closer to finishing the summer as Catforth League champions.
Two goals, the second a penalty, in as many minutes midway though the first half put them on the road to victory. Plungington provided tough opposition though, and when they got a late goal back it set up an interesting finale.
But the visitors stood firm, and held onto their lead and the three points, despite the blow of losing a player to a red card in the closing minutes.
