Westfield v Clutton

3pm  1 May 2017

Somerset County League, Division One East
Westfield 0 Clutton 4 (att 77)

Two goals in each half were enough to keep Clutton on course to win the divisional title, against a Westfield side with little to play for.

To be fair to the hosts they started as the brighter side, and Clutton's early opener was against the run of play and their first shot at goal. Westfield still looked the better of the two when they went 2-0 down not long later, but that goal ended their resistance.

The rest of the game was more pedestrian, but Clutton looked a good side and deserved their winning margin. achieved thanks to a pair of well-taken second half strikes.

Wins in their final three games will be enough to win the league, which could be harsh on rivals Stockwood Green who seem destined to complete their league season unbeaten yet finishing only second.

Westfield is a small place on the edge of Midsomer Norton in Somerset. They've been playing county league football for a few years now, and have a nice set up on Charlton Lane.

There's a single football pitch, railed off apart from one end which is roped, and there's a pair of dugouts on the far side. A small hut dispenses hot and cold drinks, and with a decent crowd in attendance it had the feel of a 'proper' local football occasion.
