Grindleton v Blackburn United

6.15pm  3 May 2017

East Lancashire League, Division Two
Grindleton 2 Blackburn United 1 (att 20)

A late season game with little to play for other than Grindleton's efforts to avoid the East Lancashire League's wooden spoon.

They gave themselves a chance of climbing off the foot of the table thanks to two goals in the opening three minutes of the second half. That was enough to overturn 1-0 half time deficit and claim all three points.

Blackburn United had gone ahead after nine minutes of a game that was, to be honest, low on quality, but was always entertaining.

The Recreation Ground in Grindleton was the final ground I needed to recomplete the East Lancashire League, for now at least, and I liked the venue a lot.

It's an enclosed pitch next to Grindleton Pavilion, which serves as a sort of village hall/community centre. There's a grass bank on one side, a groundsman's shed used by a handful of locals to escape the cold wind, and nice views all around.

Regardless of whether or not they manage to avoid finishing bottom of the table, it's good to see Grindleton back in football this season, after they failed to complete last season when they played in the Craven League.
