Northampton Town U18 v Crawley Town U18

11am  2 March 2013

Football League Youth Alliance, South East Conference
Northampton Town U18 1 Crawley Town U18 2 (att 38)

I watched Northampton's youth team at Moulton College about 10 years ago, but the college has grown since then, and the pitch now used by the Cobblers' youngsters is about two fields away from where they played previously ... far enough for me to have no qualms about counting this as a new ground.

The current pitch is officially designated as "pitch 3", whereas the one used on my last visit is now "pitch 2", and apparently reserved for first team training. Like most Youth Alliance venues, spectators stand on one side while coaching staff, trainers and subs are opposite. Spectators have the benefit of some grass banking along their side.

Northampton and Crawley are the South East Conference's bottom two sides, but the game was lively and better than I'd expected. Crawley's early first goal was cancelled out by half time, but a second half penalty for a needless foul just inside the box earned the visitors only their second league win of the season.
