6.30pm 4 September 2012
Craven and District League, Premier Division
Cowling 2 Carleton 7 (att 40)
Only the second Craven League game I've ever seen, following May's visit to Grassington United. Just as at Grassington, the combination of a nice location and watchable football made for a good evening out.
Carleton scored early and were very impressive throughout. They were 4-1 ahead at half time, and some of their finishing was worthy of a higher standard. Admittedly some of Cowling's defending wasn't great, but I'm not complaining after seeing nine goals.
Cowling's ground, shared with the local cricket club, is at the eastern fringe of the village and on the main Keighley Road. Having driven past it many times it was nice to finally see a game here.
The football pitch runs parallel to the main road, with a single dug out on the road side. On the opposite side a pavilion houses the changing rooms, with the cricket ground beyond. More Craven League football beckons I think.
