Camelford v Elburton Villa

3 March 2012
South West Peninsula League, Premier Division
Camelford 1 Elburton Villa 0 (att 52)

A weekend in the west country was the ideal opportunity to visit my last remaining ground in the Peninsula League's top division, 11 years after seeing them play on their old ground.

This was an enjoyable game between two well-matched sides. Either side could have won it, although for a long time it looked as if neither would, until Camelford finally went ahead well into the second half.

The goal was controversial, the Elburton keeper spilled the ball as a result of a robust challenge of the type that's rarely allowed these days, allowing Camelford to score from the loose ball. After that Elburton lost their composure, and with it their chance of a point, although they did come close to a late equaliser.

Camelford's Trefrew Park is a neat and pleasant venue, some way out of Camelford itself. Changing rooms and a tea bar are housed in the only building, which has hard standing in front and is flanked on either side by stands, one of them seated.
