Eastern Counties League, Premier Division
Heacham 1 Lakenheath 1 (att 110)
Heacham's rise up the football pyramid has been remarkable. Starting in 2015/16, eight successive promotions have taken them from the North Norfolk League to the top division of the Eastern Counties League. To put that into perspective, another eight promotions would propel them into the Premier League.
This season, their third at 'step five' of non-league, looks likely to be a battle to avoid relegation. It may only be autumn but the visit of Lakenheath, the only team below them in the table, looked crucial.
In the end a point apiece means both teams stay in the drop zone, but for now they're still in touch with the sides just above them.
Lakenheath made the better start, forcing the Heacham keeper into some early saves. Football is often about confidence though, and after Heacham took the lead, against the run of play, the visitors started were less assured.
The home side looked much better once they were in front but they couldn't extend their advantage. Then with just over an hour played, and again against the run of play, Lakenheath levelled.
Both teams had chances to win the game, and a very late red card meant Heacham played the final moments with 10 men, but in the end a draw was a reasonable reflection of the 90 minutes.
Heacham Sports Field has just about kept pace with the club's rise through the leagues. A low rise brick-built main stand is set back from the pitch on one side, while a couple of kit stands provide additional seating behind one goal.
A pavilion, in a corner near the entrance, provides some covered standing, as well as a place to buy food and drink. Half of the opposite end, and all of the far side, are out of bounds owing to a lack of hard standing.
