Tintwistle Athletic v Uppermill

2pm  1 September 2018

Manchester League, Division One
Tintwistle Athletic 1 Uppermill 2 (att 30)

I last visited West Drive in Tintwistle in September 2000 for a Tintwistle Villa game in the Manchester League, but in the years since, and following Villa's demise, the ground has had quite a makeover.

Tintwistle Athletic have moved in, having previously played at Glossopdale College, and have turned it into the West Drive Football Centre. The pavilion is new and, crucially for me, they've created a new senior pitch on the other side of the entrance from where their predecessors played.

At the moment other facilities are sparse, there's no dugouts and the pitch is open apart from some plastic Football Association 'Respect' barriers along part of one side, but it's a work in progress and the club are moving in the right direction.

On the pitch it's been a bit of struggle so far this season for Tintwistle. They remain bottom of the table after this defeat, and despite making Uppermill work hard for their win they were always second best.

The visitors were 1-0 up by half time and doubled their lead early in the second half. Tintwistle pulled a goal back to keep things interesting but they couldn't manage an equaliser.
