Brendon Bees v Brownley Albion

10.15am  1 September 2018

Manchester Saturday Morning League, Division Two
Brendon Bees 1 Brownley Albion 6 (att 14)

Opening day of the season for the Manchester Saturday Morning League and as I needed to stay close to home I took the opportunity to watch newcomers Brendon Bees play their first game in the league.

I think it's the first time the club have had an open age team, and with the exception of an experienced-looking goalkeeper they fielded a young side. Brownley Albion are well established at this level, and took advantage of the home side's frailties for an easy win.

The visitors led 3-0 by half time and added a fourth soon after the break. Brendon Bees pulled a goal back, and threatened to score again, but two late goals gave Brownley a perfect start to their season.

As a club Brendon Bees are based in Audenshaw, where there's road called Brendon Drive, but their open age team plays at Droylsden Academy. I'd expected them to use the 3G pitch, but the game was on grass, although the artificial surface might have been better given the length of the grass and some very indistinct pitch markings.
