Madeley White Star v Winsford United reserves

6pm  2 April 2018

Crewe and District League
Madeley White Star 6 Winsford United reserves 1 (att 10)

The continuing wet weather meant it was going to be tricky to find a game on a new ground. Driving through heavy rain on my way to Madeley I wasn't convinced this game would be on, but I arrived to the welcome sight of players putting up the goal nets.

Considering how much rain we've had, the Manor Road pitch was in surprisingly good condition. There were three pitches marked out on the large playing field, with this game on the one closest to the car park and changing rooms.

Visitors Winsford couldn't have dreamed of a better start, scoring straight from the kick off for what might well be the quickest goal I've ever seen. After that it was backs to the wall, and despite dominating the game Madeley couldn't find a first half equaliser.

The second period was a different story though, and after levelling three minutes after the restart Madeley were soon in front. From then on it was one-way traffic, and Madeley could easily have scored more.

The Crewe and District League has a single division and is the lowest level of Saturday afternoon football in this area, so it was no surprise that the standard of football wasn't the highest. It was an entertaining game though, and Madeley's haul included some quality goals.
