Kidwelly Town v Drefach

10.45am  11 March 2017

Carmarthenshire League, Division Two
Kidwelly Town 3 Drefach 1 (att 154)

A three-figure crowd for a low level game on a Saturday morning is a clue that this was the opening Carmarthenshire League game of this year's organised groundhop event.

It felt a little low key for a hop game when I arrived, but it didn't take long to find where the club were selling programmes, hot drinks and welcome bacon rolls to spectators who had travelled from across the country.

Division two is the third tier of the Carmarthenshire League, but despite the level this was a decent and very watchable game. The home side led 2-1 after a lively first half, and a single second half goal confirmed their win.

Kidwelly Town play in Parc Stephens, a public park that also houses the town's rugby ground. Football is very much the secondary sport here, with the open pitch taped off along one touchline for the occasion.
