Underwood Villa v Hucknall Rolls Leisure reserves

6.30pm  5 May 2015

Nottinghamshire Senior League, Division One
Underwood Villa 5 Hucknall Rolls Leisure reserves 1 (att 32)

I headed to Nottinghamshire without being sure which game I'd see. I was tempted to go to FC Samba, where visitors Kimberley MW needed a win the secure the division two title, but on a wet and windy evening Samba's home, one of the outside pitches at Arnold's Town exposed venue, didn't appeal.

Underwood had already won division one, but I was tempted to Bracken Park as it should be a premier division venue next season.

It's a decent ground for this level, with a modern clubhouse, beyond which two pitches run lengthways. The nearer pitch is the main one, and was full roped off and in good condition.

I expected an easy home win, but Hucknall Rolls kicked off with the very strong wind at their backs, and within a minute they opened the scoring. Underwood deservedly levelled before half time, from a free kick.

The second half was dominated by the home side. They scored four, but missed countless chances and they made the most of the difficult conditions.

Not bad entertainment for an end-of-season game with nothing at stake, but perhaps less memorable than FC Samba would have been, as Kimberley MW claimed the three points they needed with a 16-4 win.
