Southport Trinity v Marshalls

3 February 2012
West Cheshire League, Division One
Southport Trinity 5 Marshalls 2 (att 34)

A rare chance for a game on a new ground on a Friday night, and it was thanks to the all-weather 3G surface at Southport Trinity's new ground in Skelmersdale that the game went ahead.

Trinity don't have a suitable venue in their home town, and this was their second "home" game at the JMO Sports Park, having previously played even further away in Ellesmere Port.

Luckily, on such a cold night, the game kept the crowd, which included plenty of hoppers, very entertained. Marshalls had the better of the first half, but at the break led by just 1-0.

Trinity were much better in the second half, and came back to lead 2-1. Marshalls levelled with a goal that looked to Trinity, and to me, offside. The ensuing arguments led to one home player being red carded, but, amazingly, the 10 men then scored three late goals for an emphatic win.

As 3G pitches go, this ground isn't too bad. Spectators can stand inside the ground, with one side railed off with plenty of standing room. Likely to be seeing more games on 3G pitches this weekend.
