Crewe v Eagle Sports

8pm 12 May 2026

Cheshire League, Premier Division
Crewe 1 Eagle Sports 1 (att 195)

I was surprised when I read that Crewe FC had applied for a place into the National League System. But their new home ground - which they only moved into this year - is designed with promotion in mind.

The Crewe FC Hub is still a work in progress, but is already better than at least one 'step six' venue I visited this season, so should tick the boxes necessary for a place in a higher league.

But promotion isn't just a matter of pleasing the ground graders. To go up Crewe also need to finish in the top five of the Cheshire League. They went into this, their final fixture, knowing that a win would secure that.

It was clear from the off that Warrington-based visitors Eagle Sports weren't going to make it easy for them. The away side had the better of the opening exchanges, and Crewe's 27th minute goal was against the run of play.

The goal gave the home side more impetus, but despite chances they couldn't increase their lead. After half time Eagle Sports again started strongly, and this time were rewarded with an equaliser.

After that both sides had chances to win it, with the away side creating more of them and looking most likely to triumph.

Crewe came close right at the end, but ultimately had to settle for a draw. Whether the point is enough for promotion remains to be seen, and will depend on other results.

At present the Crewe FC Hub, built on part of the town's King George V Playing Fields, features an enclosed 3G pitch with spectator access at one end and along one side.

There are two covered standing areas behind the goal, plus a handful of benches that provide some limited seating. There is space where a proper seated stand could be installed along the side.
