Denmark, 2 Division
BK Frem 1 Nykøbing 2 (att 1,224)
My second game during a weekend in Copenhagen was south of the city centre in Valby, home to Boldklubben Frem 1886, a club with a long history.
These days they're in the third tier of Danish football, and hopes of quickly climbing higher suffered a surprising blow as they were beaten by bottom side Nykøbing.
Expecting a low key afternoon I made the schoolboy groundhopping error of arriving ticketless and with no cash. Thankfully a helpful steward guided through the swift process of buying a ticket online with my phone.
A well-taken goal put Frem in front after 15 minutes. I thought that would set them up for a comfortable win, especially as Nykøbing hadn't even managed to score an away league goal previously this season.
But 10 minutes after going behind they ended their drought with a fantastic strike from distance. Then before half time they scored again, doubling their entire tally of league goals, home and away, and delighting their few travelling supporters.
I expected a second half response from Frem. They spent most of the half attacking, as they had in the first, but clear chances to score were few and were wasted. The visitors didn’t just sit back, and occasionally threatened to score a third.
For the most part though it was home attack against away defence and, amazingly, the visitors held on for a win. Much as I enjoyed my visit to Frem, I was rooting for Nykøbing by the end, and was pleased they won.
The Valby Stadium is part of a sports complex that includes various grass and artificial pitches. The ground is dominated by a large seated stand that runs the length of one side.
Opposite is open terracing, set back from the pitch, with wooden bleachers at both ends. There are various food and drink outlets, but having no cash and no access to the ubiquitous MobilePay app I was forced to save some money.
