Manchester Saturday Morning League
Salford Victoria Tigers 9 Fielden Park 0 (att 3)
I needed to stay close to home so it was an ideal day to tick off a new venue that has appeared in the Manchester Saturday Morning League.
Less ideal was going to a barren and windswept school playing field on a morning when a bitterly cold wind was blowing across it. Still, at least an unusually dry few days meant little danger of a postponement.
Salford Victoria Tigers are effectively a morning offshoot of Salford Victoria FC who play in the Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur League. Unlike their afternoon side, Tigers are based at St Ambrose Barlow RC High School in Swinton.
There is a caged 3G pitch but that was staging youth games, while the adult players had use of a grass surface on the main playing field. The pitch markings were a colourful blue, presumably to help them stand out from some other markings across part of the playing area.
Fielden Park are bottom of the league, and on the evidence of this game have little chance of climbing higher. It's possible they were short of some regular players, especially with Manchester United playing at Old Trafford at lunchtime, but they were thoroughly outplayed.
Their keeper made some decent saves to keep the score to single figures. Tigers netted five goals before half time, and four more after.
