Kent County League, Premier Division
Borden Village 0 Minster 0 (att 250)
On a day when I had to travel to the south east anyway, and this fixture stood out as the pick of those available that would be a new ground to visit.
In both clubs' final game, leaders Borden Village held a one point advantage over second placed Minster, setting up a winner takes all finale.
In the end there was no winner over a nervy 90 minutes, but the draw meant Borden's narrow lead stayed intact, making them Kent County League champions.
While the game lacked the drama goals might have injected, the scoreline meant the outcome remained in the balance right up to final whistle.
Borden had created the majority of what few chances there had been, but Minster gave it a real go in the final 15 minutes or so. It was then that they came closest to breaking the deadlock, when a shot came back off the post and the rebound was put over.
Borden is a village just outside Sittingbourne. The football ground is a typical village sports ground, perfectly adequate for most games but less so for the size of crowd keen to see a title decider.
Effectively it's one-sided for spectators, with the cricket pitch side roped off and with dugouts. However, the cricket square takes out some potential standing room, and I joined a handful of people who elected to watch most of the action from the opposite touchline.
