Humber Premier League, Premier Division
St Mary's 1 Hornsea Town 4 (att 16)
I had intended to watch football in the London area and to combine the trip with a family visit to drop off Christmas presents, but the widespread icy weather meant a change of plan.
Hull has a number of 3G pitches and appeared to have escaped the worst of the wintry conditions, so once I had confirmation that at least one game was on it made sense to head east.
St Mary's play at on an artificial pitch at the Hull University sports ground in Inglemire Lane. The street is something of a sporting hub, and this was the fifth Inglemire Lane ground I've been to.
It's a third different 'tick' at Hull University, having previously seen Reckitts on a grass pitch in 2014 and a pre-blog game on an older 3G pitch. The 'dual use' 3G pitch, next to the older one, is a newer addition and is home to St Mary's AFC.
From a spectator point of view the ground is better than many similar venues. There's access around all four sides and the enclosing fence is set well back. The downside is that the rugby pitch markings, in white, are easier to see than the yellow football lines.
St Mary's took an early lead, but Hornsea always looked at least a match for them and it was 1-1 by half time. The visitors took control after the break, running out comfortable and deserved winners.
It was an entertaining game on a bitterly cold afternoon, when just getting to see a game on a new ground was a bonus. As far as I'm aware that completes my set of grounds on Hull's Inglemire Lane.
