Crosslands United v AC Milanda

10am  3 February 2018

Glasgow & District Saturday Morning League, William Drummond Trophy, Quarter-Final
Crosslands United 5 AC Milanda 2 (att 8)

The first of three games all around the same area of north Glasgow, although had I known this was being played on grass rather than a 3G surface I probably wouldn't have risked the early start needed to arrive in time for a 10am kick off.

There is a 3G pitch at the Glasgow Club Milton ground, along with four grass pitches, one of which staged this cup tie between top division hosts Crosslands and division one visitors AC Milanda.

Despite some muddy surrounds, the pitch itself was in good condition. It's on the small side, but grass banking at one end, and a high fence behind the far goal, make it feel quite enclosed for a pitch in a large playing field.

With another game to watch at midday, I was banking on the tie being settled in 90 minutes, and although it took Crosslands 25 minutes to take the lead, they soon added two more for a comfortable 3-0 half time lead.

A fourth goal followed soon after the restart, but Milanda kept the scoreline respectable by pulling a goal back, then got a second with eight minutes left. It could have meant an awkward end to the game for Crosslands, but they soon scored a fifth to put the outcome beyond any doubt.
