Barnetby United v Shape Changers

12.30pm  2 September 2017

Scunthorpe and District League, Division One
Barnetby United 0 Shape Changers 3 (att 20)

Apparently one of Barnetby's players had a boxing match later in the day so this early kick off was arranged so his teammates could be there to support him. It also allowed me and some fellow groundhoppers, who made up half the crowd, to see an extra game.

Barnetby United are one of north Lincolnshire's long-established clubs, run with enthusiasm that includes regular programmes, a rarity at this level. The helpful secretary, who seems to fulfill matchday multiple roles, even had some books on the history of the club which provided interesting half time reading.

Barnetby had a tricky summer, losing a number of players, and were well beaten by their newly-promoted visitors, whose unusual name is connected to a local gym. Shape Changers were ahead early and scored all three of their goals by half time.

The second half was more even, as Shape Changers eased off and Barnetby got more of a foothold into the game, but there were no more goals.

The venue was the village sports ground at Barnetby-le-Wold, a few miles outside Scunthorpe. The changing rooms are in a modern pavilion building, beyond which there is a large sports field.
