Hall Road Rangers v AFC Mansfield

7.45pm  21 April 2016

Northern Counties East League, Division One
Hall Road Rangers 1 AFC Mansfield 1 (att 81)

Hull-based Hall Road Rangers moved into the former rugby union ground at Haworth Park last summer, but after several postponements and one aborted trip due to traffic problems it's taken me until their final home game of the season to visit.

They signed off their home campaign with an unlikely point, thanks to an 88th minute equaliser that will most likely delay, rather than cancel, AFC Mansfield's promotion celebrations.

The visitors were sluggish but only had themselves to blame for failing to win against lowly Hall Road. They created plenty of chances, and hit the frame of the goal several times, before they finally went ahead 10 minutes into the second half.

Hall Road played better than their league position would suggest though, and battled hard to stay in the game. Their late leveller came from a free kick for a disputed handball decision, and left AFC Mansfield with too little time to get back in front.

Haworth Park is a reasonable venue, although only two sides are open to spectators, presumably due to the lack of hard standing on the far side and behind the far goal. It's a work in progress, but the club look to be putting down roots at the ground and the stand is a decent one, as is the clubhouse, although I arrived too close to kick off to sample anything more than a pre-match coffee.
