Football League Youth Alliance, South West Conference
AFC Bournemouth U18 2 Swindon Town U18 2 (att 35)
Last season I watched AFC Bournemouth's youth team in the plush surroundings of Canford School, but that was a temporary venue while they fixed some drainage problems at their Canford Park training ground.
With the work now completed, this season Bournemouth are staging games back at Canford Park, which has a large car park, a small pavilion, a few portable buildings and several manicured football pitches.
The pitch nearest the buildings and car park staged this Tuesday lunchtime kick off, with spectators lining the near side of the pitch and a TV gantry and a pair of dugouts on the far side.
It was a decent game between two well-matched sides. Bournemouth edged ahead after around half-an-hour, then doubled their lead just a minute or two later. The goals gave them the confidence to dominate the remainder of the half, but they couldn't add to their tally.
The second half was disrupted by a nasty-looking injury to a Swindon player, who was stretchered off the pitch after a lengthy delay. His teammates seemed spurred on by the incident, as they went on to play their best football of the match, deservedly drawing level.
Swindon looked the more likely side to go and win the game, but in the end they ran out of time and the points were shared.
