6.30pm 6 May 2015
Staffordshire County Senior League, Division One
Silverdale Athletic 5 Keele University 0 (att 37)
Silverdale is a former coal mining town just outside Newcastle-under-Lyme. The football ground is relatively new, and built on the site of the former colliery, the last part of which closed in the late 1990s.
It's an impressive facility, featuring a nice clubhouse, beyond which is a large sports field. The football pitch is at the far end, roped off on the near side and with a pair of dugouts on the far side.
The hosts went into this game knowing that wins in their final three league games would pretty much guarantee them runners-up spot. Keele's students gave them a tougher game than the scoreline might suggests.
Two first half goals, in quick succession, put Silverdale in control, but it was well into the second half before the outcome was decided. The home side scored their third mid-way through the second half, at which point Keele heads dropped and two more goals followed in quick succession.
To their credit, the students rallied and avoided a total capitulation, occasionally threatening to reduce the arrears. Silverdale had more chances, but failed to take them.
