2pm 7 February 2015
Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League, Premier Division
Prestatyn Sports 4 Llannefydd 1 (att 11)
I'd been undecided where to head for a Saturday afternoon game, until I read that title-challenging Prestatyn Sports had applied for promotion to the Welsh Alliance, with a plan to ground share at Prestatyn Town if successful.
I can see why they'd have to move from their current home, Meadows Fields. It's just a pitch in a field, albeit one with scenic views. The players arrived having already changed into kit, and just part of each touchline was roped off.
The home side are in a two-way tussle at the top of the table with fellow promotion hopefuls Conwy Legion United. They were made to work hard for this win by Llannefydd, who were well organised and defended resolutely.
Prestatyn Sports scored the first half's only goal, an impressive volley 10 minutes before the break, then added two more early in the second half. Llannefydd briefly threatened when they pulled a goal back, but the home side scored the game's final goal for a deserved win.
If Prestatyn Sports do win a place in the Welsh Alliance next season then I'd hope their crowds increase. On today's evidence local support for the club is sadly lacking.
