7pm 5 June 2014
Catforth and District Summer League, Division One
Nets 4 Goosnargh 3 (att 10)
The second time I've seen Goosnargh in the last two weeks or so, and while not quite as thrilling as their 5-5 draw at Plungington it was another very entertaining and goal-filled evening.
Both sides played good football, aided no doubt by the 3G surface. Perhaps they were also helped by the game quickly being reduced to 10-a-side, after an early altercation resulted in a red card for each team in the fifth minute.
Goosnargh appeared to take control of the game by scoring twice within 60 seconds after around 20 minutes. Nets, named after a bar, judging by their shirt sponsor, responded well, and had deservedly made it 2-2 by half time.
My money was on the home side completing their comeback in the second half. They did so eventually, but had to do it the hard way after Goosnargh scored a third early in the half. Nets drew level again, and then scored a winner with just a couple of minutes remaining.
Nets play home games on an all-weather pitch in the grounds of Brownedge St Mary's School in Bamber Bridge, just south of Preston. It's a typical fenced-in floodlit 3G pitch.
