Stan Brewster Memorial Tournament, Group B at Charles Hill Playing Fields, Loscoe
Codnor Miners 1 Hurst Farm United 1 (att 27)
Third time I've seen a game in the pre-season Stan Brewster Tournament, but my first visit to one of its regular venues, the Charles Hill Playing Fields in Loscoe, near Heanor.
Both the opening Group B games were played at Loscoe tonight, with Long Eaton reserves and SSAFA in action on a pitch far enough away not to interfere with this tie.
The pitch used by Matlock League rivals Codnor and Hurst Farm was closest to the car park and changing rooms, and feels enclosed with trees and bushes on the far side and behind the far goal, a grass bank along on the near side, and an open end beyond which are two more pitches.
The game was a bit scrappy, as might be expected at this stage in pre-season, but got better as it progressed. Both goals were great strikes, Hurst Farm went ahead after 20 minutes, before Codnor equalised in the second half.
