Armenia, Premier League
FC Banants Yerevan 0 FC Gandzasar 0 (att 150 officially, although it looked more)
First of three games during a weekend stay in Yerevan, ticking off another of the 53 UEFA nations.
Despite the scoreline (ending my run of 129 games without a goalless draw) the game wasn't bad. Lots of neat and tidy football, but efforts on goal were few and far between, and efforts on target were even rarer.
The visitors looked the slightly better side, but both teams seemed happy to settle for a point well before the end. The final score surprised no one, and the players can be excused the slow pace given the heat.
No complaints about value for money though, as admission was free.
Banants, logically enough, play at the Banants Stadium. It's about three or four miles west of the city centre. I took a cab to get there, which cost about £2, and strolled back, stopping on the way for a very tasty kebab and a Coke (about £1.50). The only catering at the ground was a small convenience store across the road.
The stadium is modern, with seats on three sides, but no access to the end where the changing rooms are. The main stand has roof supports, with canvas, or something similar, over some of them to provide respite from the hot sun. The rest of the seats are uncovered.
