Middlesex County League, Division One South and West
Feltham 0 Sporting Duet Academy 3 (att 8)
I used to be a regular at Feltham homes games, back in the 1980s when they played at the now-demolished Feltham Arena. Having then gone decades without seeing them at home, this was my second time within a year.
Last season, the revived club's first as senior side, I saw them host a game at Spelthorne. They drew that day but relegation followed, as did a move to a new ground.
Home now is Hanworth Air Park, so named as it used to be an airfield. Feltham actually played here many decades ago, under their previous name Tudor Park and before Feltham Arena was built.
It's a large open space. The football pitch is a fair walk from the changing rooms and clubhouse of Feltham Rugby Club, whose facilities Feltham FC use on matchdays.
There is a railed off football pitch in the park, which I believe is used by Sunday side Hanworth Sports. Feltham make do with erecting a temporary barrier along half of one side of theirs.
Not that there were many spectators to keep in check. Crowds are sparse at this level, and Feltham have again struggled this season. They're one place off the bottom, and the visit of leaders Sporting Duet Academy was going to be a difficult game.
The visitors were ahead early when a speculative effort deceived the Feltham keeper and ended up in the net. With 10 minutes gone it was 2-0 and it looked likely to be a rout.
That it wasn't was mainly due to a straight red card for the visitors, for denying a goalscoring opportunity, with just a quarter of the game played.
After that Sporting Duet Academy were mostly content to protect their lead. Feltham worked hard and got themselves into some promising positions, but never really looked like scoring.
In the closing moments Feltham's goalkeeper joined the attack at a set piece, and after the home side lost the ball Sporting Duet were able to add a third goal into the empty net.
