Holmfirth Town v Hade Edge

6.15pm 7 September 2023

Huddersfield and District League, Division Three
Holmfirth Town 5 Hade Edge 4 (att 20)

A gloriously chaotic game in the depths of the fourth tier of the Huddersfield and District League resulted in Holmfirth winning by the odd goal in nine.

They got off to a perfect if fortunate start when a free kick from near the half way line bounced in front of, and then over, a stranded Hade Edge goalkeeper. The visitors were level after four minutes, and that set the tone for what followed.

Holmfirth went back ahead but Hade Edge scored twice before half time to take a 3-2 lead into the break.

The home side were playing down the slope in the second period, and used that to their advantage as they turned the game around to moved into a 5-3 lead. Hade Edge got one goal back but couldn't draw level.

Holmfirth Town have a new home this season, having taken over the former ground of now-defunct Cartworth Moor AFC. It's a wonderfully scenic venue, just outside the town of Holmfirth.

There's a single sloping pitch, a dugout on one side and a small pavilion building with a couple of benches for spectators who prefer to sit. A lovely venue on a warm evening, although I imagine it gets chilly in winter.

  1. We hope you enjoyed your evening!

Just to note our arrangement with Cartworth is to lease their pitch rather than "taken over" and whilst they don't have a team this season the club is still in existence.

    Many thanks, great report.
