Pre-season friendly at Queen Mary University
Stansfeld 2 Dorking Wanderers B 0 (att 49)
I rarely travel far to watch a pre-season friendly, but as I was in London anyway I took the opportunity to visit a venue that rarely stages first team football outside of university leagues.
The Queen Mary University sports ground in Chislehurst is next door to Glebe FC, where Stansfeld have a groundshare for their first team games, so they hadn't travelled far to stage this fixture.
There are actually two adjacent university facilities, with this match played on the 'west' ground. There's a traditional pavilion, and enough space for a cricket match to be played at the same time as the football.
Some friendlies, particularly early ones, can be tepid affairs but this was a decent game with a competitive edge. Stansfeld deserved their win against a youthful Dorking Wanderers reserve team.
An unfortunate error by the visiting goalkeeper presented Stansfeld with the easiest of goals before half time. He made amends by saving a penalty after the break, but could do nothing about Stansfeld's second goal.
