Old Tonbridgians v Old Carthusians

11am  6 November 2021

Arthurian League, Premier Division
Old Tonbridgians 4 Old Carthusians 2 (att 11)

This game wasn't first choice but plan B became plan A once my intended match, nearby and in the same league, was showing as postponed early on Saturday morning.

I'd last visited Old Tonbridgians in 2015 when they played on a 3G pitch at Wrotham School. Since then they've moved to one of the many pitches at their own school's extensive, and manicured, playing fields.

Old Carthusians had won all six league matches going into this, so to find themselves 3-0 behind before half time was something of a shock. It was a fair reflection on the half though, as Tonbridge were clinical in attack and tight in defence.

A fourth home goal, early in the second period, was the crucial strike. Carthusians are a good side and there was always a chance of a comeback once they scored, but a four goal deficit was too much to overturn.

They gave it a good go though, despite leaving it late. They made it 4-1 with 12 minutes left, and a second goal five minutes later made the closing moments less conformable for the hosts, but they held on to win.
