Netherley Woodlane Legion v British Rail

6.30pm  4 April 2017

Liverpool County Premier League, Division One
Netherley Woodlane Legion 4 British Rail 1 (att 25)

After another tortuous rush hour journey I made it to Wood Lane, in the Netherley district of Liverpool, just a couple of minutes before this game got underway.

The first half had a low-key end-of-season feel to it. The home side were well on top, and seized on some slack defending to take a 2-0 lead by the break.

British Rail - formerly BRNESC reserves but now playing in the same division as their parent club - where much better in the second half. They pushed hard to get back into the game, but by the time they got a deserved goal back late on they'd conceded a third.

A fourth goal in the final few minutes rounded off a good evening for the hosts. Promotion looks beyond Netherley Woodlane Legion this season, but they seem to have the facilities to step up.

Their ground is just a pitch on a recreation ground, but it's fully railed off which makes it better than many at this level, although players on both sides struggled with what looked to a poor surface. The Royal British Legion club is immediately next door.
