2.30pm 14 November 2015
Lancashire Amateur League, Premier Division
Failsworth Dynamos 5 Howe Bridge Mills 1 (att 25)
Evening commitments meant I had to stay local today, so I'd probably have ended up watching this game even if the heavy rain hadn't made an artificial pitch the best option to guarantee seeing some football.
Failsworth Dynamos use a 4G pitch at the back of a Failsworth School, which is now a "specialist sports college" and home to a "sports campus". As well as the all-weather pitch, the facilities include grass pitches on the opposite side of Brierley Avenue, where Dynamos played when I saw them in 2010.
All artificial turf pitches tend to be similar in style, and this one is no different. It does have a fenced off area for spectators the length of one touchline, and the floodlights were used for the last 20 minutes.
The heavy rain must have made playing football a challenge, but despite the conditions this was a decent game for the most part. Failsworth were 2-0 ahead by half time, and deserved their comfortable win against a hard-working Howe Bridge Mills.
